Supermarine Walrus
g
This beautiful example of a Supermarine Walrus is being beautifully restored and will eventually be on display at the IWM Duxford Aircraft Museum, England and has been spotted & captured perfectly by our long-time correspondent David Legg - of 'Miss Pickup' PBY 5A Catalina fame (and Crew, lucky So & So...!) - also based at Duxford. Thanks for sending these superb detailed images into SEAWINGS, David. Very much appreciated.

Following David's 'alert' that this magnificent Walrus was there I just had to go and see it for myself..! I found in the rear of the main maintenance hangar, but it was very awkward to get up to. Very helpfully the Catalina was virtually next to it, being worked on at the time getting ready for this year's flying program, and the Guys that I know there very kindly 'escorted' me up to her so I could shoot these images; Grateful thanks Guys!!

David said, " I think this is the ex-Charles Church Walrus G-RNLI and that it has actually been at Duxford for a while but elsewhere on the airfield (ARCO’s main hangar, I think). I was really surprised to see it in ‘our’ T2 hangar. I understand it is painted as a Walrus from HMS Belfast - my dad’s old ship as it happens".

She looks great and I will make a return visit in a few weeks time to see if further work has been carried our and also what advantages the airframe in this state can offer for scale modellers.
