Our prolific Canadian based correspondent - and real friend of SEAWINGS - Alex Norton, managed to get his hands on this fabulous original Curtiss H.S. 1-L construction manual and very kindly donated the images of the pages to us. I find these early manuals fascinating on so many different levels; they are produced with the skill and technical craftsmanship of people, long before the advent of any computer (for the actual manual) and only just after the advent of the camera. As for the construction, it was pure skilled craftsmanship. The manual makes really informative reading from an age well in the past, yet it speak volumes for the skills of all those involved - just look at the writing, the pictures and the workmanship in the building. Our grateful thanks as ever goes to Alex. |
